Healthy Dog Breeds

Posted By Worldhealth on Jan 11, 2011 at 11:58AM

Hi, this my dog:~)

It's raining Cats & Dogs!

In mythology wolves & dogs were assistants of Odin the god of storms. Sailors thought storms were related to wolves & dogs. There is also a tale that pets lived on the roof so when it rained heavily they felt from the roof. It’s said that in 17th/18th century England heavy rain will carry along dead animals and rubbish. It must have been a terrible sight seeing the dead cats & dogs corpses floating. Poor hygiene in the unrefined Londonian streets must have lead to the phrase raining cats and dogs. Writers have taken up that phrase throughout the centuries. So I guest it will be extremely productive if we keep our streets clean & take good care of our pets. If we keep our dog’s health optimized then perhaps we’ll pass down other phrases to our next generation.

Posted By Delilah02 on Dec 10, 2009 at 2:01PM

Hey just wanted to tell everyone I just tried Isle of Dog's new treats for bad breath for your dog and they work great. My dog Delilah has chronic bad breath and I love to snuggle her up but man breath of death! Haa I got them at Petco. I have used Isle of Dogs shampoos and conditioners on Delilah for the last couple of years and love the products and was very pleased when I heard they had a new treat to try at Petco that can help with breath troubles! I am a fan on their facebook page and saw they also have a special going for treats where you buy 3 bags of treats and you get a free odor spray plus a free bottle of shampoo and conditioner. What a deal! I think you have to order from their website which I am doing in a few minutes. I just wanted to tell everyone here on Petsugar about it since I think it's a steal of a good give away! If your interested as well the promo code is 3treatsfb and their website is www.iodogs.com.

Hello everyone, I have a Yorkiepoo and I have tried Isle of Dogs coature shampoos and conditioners in the past and loved them.  I recently was at Petco here in New York, where we live and saw they have a new Everyday line and new treats and was wondering if anyone else tried them yet?  I found Isle of Dogs on Facebook and from what I read people seem to be loving the new stuff.  I did ask for a catalog on Facebook and some samples come with I guess.  I am just wonder if anyone else has tried the stuff and if they like it?

Marines Outraged by Puppy-Throwing Video

Posted By gruaig_rua on Mar 4, 2008 at 3:12PM

HONOLULU — The United States Marines Corps on Tuesday condemned a video that purportedly shows a Marine viciously mistreating a puppy and promised an aggressive investigation into who is responsible.

Sources at the Marine Corps base in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, told FOXNews.com that they were upset and outraged by the video, which was initially posted on YouTube but has since been taken down. They confirmed there is someone stationed there who served in Iraq with the same name uttered in the video.

"There is [a man by that name] here and back from Iraq," a source said. "Whether or not he is actually in the video, I can’t confirm that — that’s being investigated right now."

In the grainy, low-quality clip, the Marine appears to throw a puppy off a rocky cliff while joking with another Marine, who addresses him by a single name as he holds up the motionless black-and-white dog before hurling it into a gully.

“Oh, I tripped,” the first Marine says as he throws the animal. A yelping sound is heard as the puppy flies through the air.

“That’s mean. That was mean, Motari," a second man, pictured with him in the beginning of the video, can be heard saying.

A host of Internet blogs and sites have circulated what they speculate is the dog-tossing Marine's full name.

It was likely that the named man and others were being questioned in the case, sources told FOXNews.com. Those at the base in Hawaii were very upset by the video.

"We’re all outraged," a source said. "We’re probably more outraged than the general public. I hate that it happened."

Earlier Tuesday, the base's public affairs director issued a statement denouncing the vignette.

"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," said Major Chris Perrine. "This video came to our attention this morning, and we have initiated an investigation. We do not tolerate this type of behavior and will take appropriate action."

Soon after the uproar started Tuesday, YouTube removed the video from its site on the grounds that it violated content rules — though it was still accessible and available via other links online.

The authenticity of the clip, which has been viewed more than 145,000 times since it was uploaded to YouTube in the last two days, has not been verified.

Perrine said it appears that the man in the video is a lance corporal based with a unit in the Hawaiian islands. His actions weren't characteristic of those of most men and women who serve, the spokesman said.

"The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties in an honorable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States," said Perrine. "There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children.

"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."

"It's questionable," sources told FOXNews.com. "But even if it was a fake, it's still outrageous."

Forum members and bloggers have been frantically trying to track down details of the soldier.

"Certainly there's a lot of outrage and a lot of people are upset about it. I think every Marine is upset about this video," Perrine said. “We will investigate and take appropriate action and make sure our Marine is safe as well.

"That is mistreatment of a puppy. That is a violation of anybody's standards, and the Marine Corps sets extremely high standards."

Dog saves boy from fire by biting foot

Posted By LolaDub on Jan 8, 2008 at 7:02AM

PORTAGE, Ind. - A black Labrador that bit a 13-year-old boy's foot repeatedly, waking him up, is being credited with saving the boy and two of his friends from a house fire. Christopher Peebles said he woke up Friday morning to feel his dog Laney biting his foot repeatedly in the basement of his family's home, where he and two friends had spent the night.

I thought she had to go to the bathroom, but she never bites me," Peebles said Friday.

He and his friends walked upstairs with Laney and noticed smoke everywhere in the home.

"We came up the stairs and thought it was a dream, but it was cold when we opened the door — then we knew it wasn't a dream," Pebbles said.

Firefighters arrived about 10 a.m. and found the home's garage and eaves on fire. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Bucy said the damage was mostly in the attached one-car garage of the ranch home.

Fire Chief Bill Lundy said the fire, which caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the home, appeared to have started in an electrical heating unit in the garage.

Peebles' parents, Dave and Vicky Peebles, were both at work at the time of the fire. They said they were relieved that their son and his friends were not injured.

Dave Peebles said that one point after Laney had ushered Christopher and his friends out of the house the dog ran back inside and wouldn't come out until he went in to get her.

Peebles said his son and the dog were "real close."

"She's always been very protective of him," Vicky Peebles said of Laney.

3 Md. dogs enjoy $800,000 inheritance

Posted By LolaDub on Dec 30, 2007 at 12:08PM

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - They're not as loaded as Leona Helmsley's pooch, but three Maryland canines are plenty rich enough to live high on the dog.The dogs — named Buckshot, Katie and Obu-Jet — inherited $400,000 and a house in Hagerstown with the death last year of owner Ken Kemper. Altogether, their estate is worth about $800,000.

The beagle and two Labrador mixes were strays when Kemper adopted them. They now live at their house with caretaker Roy Grady.

They might not be aware of their wealth, but they do know that on one night a week Grady treats them to spaghetti dinner, with meatballs and garlic bread.

"They love it," he said. "They know when it's coming on Friday, too. They have that time clock."

They also get top-notch health care. When Katie got out of the yard last summer and was hit by a car, she made 40 visits to a veterinarian's office to mend her broken legs and hip. The bill was close to $6,000.

Helmsley's dog, a pampered but reportedly ill-tempered Maltese named Trouble, inherited $12 million from the late hotelier. But unlike that pooch, Kemper's pets seem content romping in their yard.

"They're the most loving dogs," Grady said.

Kemper worked for the federally funded Voice of America, and commonly brought home stray dogs when he returned from overseas assignments.

The executor of Kemper's estate, longtime friend Karin Anderson, said that when the dogs die, she will probably donate the remainder of the estate to an animal charity because that's what Kemper would have wanted.

"He really loved animals," Anderson said. "The man's heart was so big, it needed its own ZIP code."
